The Council of Trent in 1546, answering the Reformation, formally defined the canon for the Catholic Church — deuterocanonical books included. The books themselves had been read in churches for over a millennium; Trent's move was to settle their status with a formal definition.
Why it’s interesting
Both traditions were drawing firm lines in the same century: Luther's Bibles shelved these books in a separate section in the very same era Trent defined them as scripture. Antiquity had left the question with softer edges than either line suggests.
