THIS MIGHT SURPRISE YOU
The answer
Pharaoh's daughter. She finds the basket among the reeds and hires the baby's own mother to nurse him. When the child grows up, the mother brings him back and he becomes the princess's son. The princess names him Moses, "because," she said, "I drew him out of the water" (Exodus 2:10).
Why it’s interesting
The New Oxford Annotated Bible, a study Bible, says Moses is an Egyptian name meaning "is born". It turns up inside Egyptian names like Thutmoses and Rameses. Exodus explains it with Hebrew instead: it sounds like the Hebrew word for drawing out.
