A raven (Genesis 8:7). It went "to and fro until the waters were dried up" and never reported back. The dove — three flights, one olive leaf — came after.
Why it’s interesting
Memory kept the dove and dropped the raven, but both are in the same chapter, four verses apart. The raven simply flies the story's margins until the earth is dry.
