The answer
Never. Where the Hebrew says Sheol, the NRSVue prints Sheol, as in Jacob's words, "No, I shall go down to Sheol to my son, mourning" (Genesis 37:35). The English word "hell" appears only in the New Testament.
Why it’s interesting
In the New Testament, "hell" translates the Greek Gehenna, the name of a valley outside Jerusalem (Matthew 5:22). In one verse it translates the Greek word tartarus, the place where God put the angels who sinned (2 Peter 2:4). Hades is left as Hades.
