THIS MIGHT SURPRISE YOU

"At least one Greek or Roman writer of the first century AD, neither Jewish nor Christian, mentions Jesus by name." Agree or disagree?

The answer

Disagree. Hundreds of writings by Greek and Roman authors survive from the first century, and not one names him. The first is Pliny's letter to the emperor Trajan, in 112 AD.

Why it’s interesting

The silence covers histories, poems, official letters and private notes. Even Pliny's letter is about Christians on trial in his province, not about Jesus himself.
