THIS MIGHT SURPRISE YOU
The answer
A psalm of thanksgiving. It tells of the danger and of the Lord stepping in, and it ends with a promise: "I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay" (Jonah 2:9). It has no plain request to be saved, though Jonah is still inside the fish.
Why it’s interesting
One phrase in it, "into the heart of the seas," turns up almost word for word six times in Ezekiel 27 and 28. There it is part of a lament over Tyre, a trading city whose riches, sailors and warriors "sink into the heart of the seas on the day of your ruin" (Ezekiel 27:27).
