THIS MIGHT SURPRISE YOU
The answer
Matthew. Matthew 12:40 says that as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth. Luke 11:30 makes Jonah a sign to the people of Nineveh and does not mention the fish. In Mark 8:12, Jesus refuses any sign at all.
Why it’s interesting
Without the fish, Luke's sign can be read more than one way. It could point to Jonah's warning to Nineveh, or to the withered bush that punished Jonah in chapter 4.
