The answer
1 Timothy. The line is 1 Timothy 6:10, in a letter. It is not in a Gospel and not in Proverbs, and it is not a saying of Jesus. Hebrews 13:5 warns about the love of money too: "Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have."
Why it’s interesting
The chapter comes back to wealth more than once. It also has a word for people who are already rich: do not be haughty, do not set your hopes on "the uncertainty of riches" and be "generous, and ready to share" (1 Timothy 6:17-18).
