THIS MIGHT SURPRISE YOU
The answer
A little child. The verse ends: "the calf and the lion will feed together, and a little child shall lead them" (Isaiah 11:6). Two verses later a nursing child plays over a snake's hole, and a weaned child puts its hand on the adder's den (Isaiah 11:8).
Why it’s interesting
In the art of Isaiah's world, kings kill lions and keep wild animals as pets. The verse flips that picture: nobody hunts the lion here, and it feeds beside the calf.
