DID YOU KNOW?
The answer
David's prayer in 1 Chronicles 29. Blessing God before the whole assembly, David says: "Yours, O Lord, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty", and a line later, "yours is the kingdom, O Lord" (1 Chronicles 29:11). The closing of the Lord's Prayer was probably added to Matthew later, shaped by those lines.
Why it’s interesting
Matthew 6:13 itself stops at "rescue us from the evil one". The closing stands in a footnote, which says some ancient copies of Matthew add it. Parts of David's prayer are still used in Christian and Jewish worship today.
