Cyprus. At Paphos, in Acts 13, Luke writes "Saul, also known as Paul" — and uses Paul from then on, without ever explaining the switch. The Roman proconsul he's addressing there happens to be named Sergius Paulus.
Why it’s interesting
The name change everyone attaches to Damascus actually surfaces mid-journey, as a passing aside on an island. Luke never explains it, and Paul's own letters never use "Saul" at all.
