Acts 9:7: they "heard the voice but saw no one." In Acts 22:9, Paul tells the crowd his companions "saw the light but did not hear the voice." Acts 26 doesn't say either way.
Why it’s interesting
Translators feel the pressure of the pair: some render 22:9 "did not understand the voice," a sense the Greek verb can carry — and a choice these two verses made famous. Scholars genuinely disagree about whether that solves it or smooths it.
