An earlier letter: "I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral persons" (1 Corinthians 5:9). That letter never survived — so the book we call First Corinthians is at least his second to Corinth.
Why it’s interesting
Paul's surviving letters mention mail we've lost — this one, and a letter to Laodicea (Colossians 4:16). The thirteen in the New Testament are the remnant of a larger correspondence; how much larger, nobody knows.
