Revelation 16:16 gathers the kings of the world "at the place that in Hebrew is called Harmagedon." Where does that name come from?

The answer

The mountain of Megiddo. Harmagedon, also written Armageddon, comes from the Hebrew "har Megiddo," "the mountain of Megiddo." Megiddo is a real place, and Revelation names it in this one verse (Revelation 16:16).

Why it’s interesting

Megiddo sat at the western end of the Valley of Jezreel, a spot armies fought over. Several decisive battles in Israel's history were fought there, and the books of Judges and 2 Kings record them.
