John describes the new Jerusalem in detail in Revelation 21. What does he say he did not see in the city?

The answer

A temple. "I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb" (Revelation 21:22). The city needs no sun or moon either, because the glory of God is its light (21:23).

Why it’s interesting

Jerusalem's own Temple had stood until 70 AD, and the cities of Roman Asia were full of grand temples. The new Jerusalem has none at all.
