TRADITION VS SCHOLARSHIP

At the sixth seal, "the sky vanished like a scroll rolling itself up" (Revelation 6:14). What happens to the sun two chapters later, at the fourth trumpet?

The answer

A third of it is struck. "A third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars" (Revelation 8:12). At the fourth bowl the sun is there again, and it scorches people with fire (16:8).

Why it’s interesting

Some scholars read the seven seals, seven trumpets and seven bowls as one judgment told again from several angles. Others see older pieces joined by a final writer. The text keeps the sun through all three.

Genuinely debated
