DID YOU KNOW?
The answer
Revelation. Its writer simply calls himself John and does not claim to be anyone famous from the past (Revelation 1:9). 1 Enoch, 2 Baruch and the Apocalypse of Peter take the names of revered figures: Enoch, Baruch and the apostle Peter.
Why it’s interesting
A borrowed name lent a vision an authority it could not get on its own. The Shepherd of Hermas, a Christian book of visions written in Rome in the 100s AD, is another rare one that uses its writer's real name.
