The answer
Matthew 6:9-13 gives the fuller, familiar prayer. Luke 11:2-4 is shorter in modern critical editions and most modern translations — it opens simply 'Father,' and lacks a few of the lines many people know by heart. Later manuscripts expand Luke toward Matthew, so in a King James Bible the two look much more alike.
Why it’s interesting
The version recited in most churches is Matthew's. Luke's leaner prayer is a reminder that even the most memorized words in Christianity come down to us in more than one shape.
