In Matthew 8:5-7 the centurion comes to Jesus and speaks with him directly. In Luke 7:3-6 he never appears — he sends Jewish elders, and then friends, to carry his words.
Why it’s interesting
Luke's version quietly deepens the man's humility: he doesn't feel worthy even to approach. The famous line — 'only say the word, and my servant will be healed' — reaches Jesus through others in one telling and face to face in the other.
