THIS MIGHT SURPRISE YOU
The answer
A disciple asks him. After Jesus finishes praying, one of his disciples says, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples" (Luke 11:1). In Matthew there is no request. The prayer sits inside the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:9-13).
Why it’s interesting
Luke sets the scene on Jesus's long journey to Jerusalem, which begins when "he set his face to go to Jerusalem" (Luke 9:51). The request also lets slip that John the Baptist had taught his own disciples to pray.
