DID YOU KNOW?

Luke's Gospel opens by saying something about other accounts of Jesus. What does it say?

The answer

That many had already set out to write one. Luke 1:1 opens, "Since many have undertaken to compile a narrative about the events that have been fulfilled among us." Luke never names who the many were.

Why it’s interesting

Luke says he will write "a well-ordered account" (Luke 1:3). Opening with sources and a purpose is how many Greek histories began.
