'Let him who is without sin cast the first stone' (John 7:53-8:11) is absent from the earliest and best manuscripts. In others it appears — but not always in the same place; some copies park it elsewhere in John, and one puts it in Luke.
Why it’s interesting
A passage that wanders between locations in the manuscripts is a classic sign it was added later rather than original. Many scholars still treasure it as an authentic memory of Jesus that found its home in the text over time.
