Jerusalem (Matthew 2:1–2). The magi arrive at the capital asking where the king of the Jews has been born — which is how Herod learns of it. Only after his scholars cite the prophet Micah are they pointed to Bethlehem, and the star reappears to lead them the last stretch.
Why it’s interesting
The visitors navigating by a star still needed directions, and Herod's own court supplies them. That detour through the palace is what sets the rest of Matthew's chapter — the flight to Egypt included — in motion.
