John opens with a hymn: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." His Christmas verse, if he has one, is a single line — "the Word became flesh and lived among us."
Why it’s interesting
John's first words deliberately echo the Bible's first words — "in the beginning" is how Genesis opens too. Where Matthew and Luke start with a birth, John starts with creation itself.
